About Aging Gratefully Podcast
Cathy Dawes Scroggs has always had a passion for storytelling. With over 40 years of experience as a broadcaster, news anchor, and journalist, she became a trusted voice in radio. Her career took her from her small-town beginnings in Atchison, Kansas, to radio stations across the country, including Jacksonville, Oklahoma City, and Peoria, before eventually landing back in Manhattan, Kansas.
At just 17 years old, Cathy began her media journey as the assistant news director at the University of Kansas' radio station, KUOK. Her love for storytelling and connection led her to interview renowned figures like astronaut Sally Ride, actress Shirley MacLaine, and legendary broadcaster Paul Harvey. Cathy’s work earned widespread recognition, including the 2013 High Plains Media Award for her compelling series Cathy’s Big C Journey, which documented her personal battle with cancer. Other impactful works like Catholics in Crisis and Journey Home cemented her legacy as a trusted and empathetic journalist.
After stepping away from a broadcasting career she loved at the age of 62, Cathy found herself questioning what life would look like in retirement. A middle-of-the-night dream sparked an idea—why not share this journey with others navigating the same confusing, joyful, and sometimes challenging path? From health concerns and family dynamics to finding new passions, Aging Gratefully explores it all.
Each week, Cathy sits down with inspiring guests from all walks of life across the state of Kansas, sharing personal stories, wisdom, and practical advice. With laughter, tears, and heartfelt conversations, the podcast is a space where listeners of all ages can connect, learn, and find gratitude in every step of life.
